Bridger's First Birthaday Cake.

Today was my son Bridger's first birthday party. He turns one on Oct. 26th. I decided I wanted to go all out and make him a cool cake. I had a great idea and decided to do an octopus. I have some images to show the process.

These are the cakes that I started with. I cut the head/body of the octopus and laid them on the cake for a quick mock-up of scale.

After I was happy with the scale of the head/body I carved it into the shape I was looking for and put it back in the freezer while I tried to figure the rest of this cake out.

Quickly roughed out the shape of the base of the cake and mixed the colors of icing.

I then iced the base of the cake. Pulled out the head/body and iced that. This was fairly difficult to get smooth with regular icing. But I thought it turned out pretty nice.

Started to put it all together. Some of the pieces I iced before putting on and some were iced while on the cake.

Some finishing touches. Put water splashing around the octopus and added some eyes.

Overall I was very happy with this cake. I think it was one of the coolest but more difficult cakes I’ve had to do. But I had a lot of fun doing it.
