Bridger's First Birthaday Cake.

Today was my son Bridger's first birthday party. He turns one on Oct. 26th. I decided I wanted to go all out and make him a cool cake. I had a great idea and decided to do an octopus. I have some images to show the process.

These are the cakes that I started with. I cut the head/body of the octopus and laid them on the cake for a quick mock-up of scale.

After I was happy with the scale of the head/body I carved it into the shape I was looking for and put it back in the freezer while I tried to figure the rest of this cake out.

Quickly roughed out the shape of the base of the cake and mixed the colors of icing.

I then iced the base of the cake. Pulled out the head/body and iced that. This was fairly difficult to get smooth with regular icing. But I thought it turned out pretty nice.

Started to put it all together. Some of the pieces I iced before putting on and some were iced while on the cake.

Some finishing touches. Put water splashing around the octopus and added some eyes.

Overall I was very happy with this cake. I think it was one of the coolest but more difficult cakes I’ve had to do. But I had a lot of fun doing it.

More Band of Bugs. Villain Kamul

Here is another Band of Bugs character. This one is Kamul. He is the main villain from the game. I really like how he turned out.  Especially his evil grin with his crooked teeth.  I'm still putting together images for many more of the characters.  So I will keep updating and I get them done.

Band of Bugs Hero Maal

I know this is long over due. But I am finally posting some of the characters that I modeled/textured/rigged for the game "Band if Bugs" released on Xbox LIVE Arcade. This is Maal the main hero for the regular campaign missions. He is one of my favorite characters from the game. The sword was really cool and fun to model as well.  All the "Band of Bugs" characters and objects that I post were drawn by Shawn Boyles who's blog is in my links as Spike the Surf dog.  Also he and Isaac Stewart, who was the animator on "Band of Bugs" have new webcomic at www.rocketroadtrip.com. So check both of those out when you get a chance.  You won't regret it.  I will be posting more characters from "Band of Bugs" through the coming weeks.

Another troll concept update

So I made a little more progress with the troll. I filled out a little more of the volume, added a little more detail and a little bit more texture to it. I'm kind of upset I didn't start this painting at a larger size to get a little more control. I guess I'm just so used to game res textures that this seemed large enough... Oh well, nothing I can do about that now. The next painting will for sure be more.

As with anything I post on here, let me know what you think. If you have any critiques and/or comments just let me know what needs improvement.

Close call, but not quite...

Well, so we had a close call on the 22nd with the baby. My wife had normal doctors appointment and as soon as we got in the office she began having contractions. After seeing the doctor, Megan was in much pain from these and the doctor checked her out and said she was in fact in labor. He told us to go to the hospital right away. So we did. We were there for a few hours, but her contractions never became strong enough to make any real progress. So the finally sent us home.

It was pretty frustrating because my mom and grandma drove down here. (About an hour and a half drive) Waited in the hospital for a few hours and had to drive back home. Knowing that they will have to drive back up in the next couple of days. Also Megan was so sad about us not going home with a baby that she actually started to cry. So that kinda mad me feel bad. But it will happen soon enough and by then we will be wishing it never did happen (Just kidding). Anyway... I guess I just needed to vent a little of that built up frustration. I will update as things progress.

Troll Painting Update

Finally got back to working on this troll again. I think he still needs a lot of definition. He still doesn't seem to have enough volume so I still have a lot of work to go on this guy.
I've been really busy working on a new model that I am really having some fun with. I will probably be posting some renders of her as I make a little bit more progress.

On an unrelated note. Our baby is due tomorrow, but it's not looking like he will be here by then. We have an appointment tomorrow to see the progress and already have an appointment set up for the 25th to induce labor if he is not her by then.

Troll

Here is a concept of a enemy creature (troll) for an indepentant game project my brother and I are working on, aka "BlueOrb Studios". Even though the drawing is really quick and rough I was pretty pleased with the results.
